Had the misfortune of being invited to an interview with the CEO, Michael. In the first five minutes, he seemed perfectly nice. In the next few, however, it was clear he had not bothered to read my CV and had expected to meet someone with 100 years of experience. He then proceeded to belittle myself and my experience – I had just entered the workforce in that industry a year earlier, a fact that was clear on my resume. Anyone with an ounce of long-term vision would've recognised that and understood what a career path and goals are. Thankfully I never had the opportunity to work at Gullan & Gullan; had an offer been made, I would've turned it down.
In hindsight, this was a blessing. This company has one of the most shocking reputations in the industry, they treat staff poorly and encourage a cut-throat environment; often finding themselves being threatened with CCMA litigation (and for good reason) – a bullet I am glad I dodged.
