I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at HSM Advisory (London, England) in May 2022
Interview
2-3 stage process. Initial stage is an informal discussion with two people, the second stage was a 2 hour exercise with a 1 hour interview to present findings immediately after. Everyone at HSM is really friendly and very intelligent, the company does some incredibly interesting work and the interview exercise was very fun and relevant to the role. The reason I had a bad experience was because of the person managing the interview process. She was very scatty, unreliable and hard to get hold of. After I had done the second stage 3+ hour exercise and interview (I had very positive feedback throughout the interview) I had to wait almost 2 weeks to be told I was unsuccessful because I ''didn't have enough experience''. I emailed multiple times with no response and they were unreliable with calls, too. I followed up to seek a better understanding of the feedback but I've still had no response. They are also not clear on the salary for this role, which is listed as 'competitive'. The salary range is £25k-£35K for a private sector, London based consultancy role... not competitive in the slightest. I'm not a grad, have 6 years of business experience since leaving uni (and more work experience before and during uni) and am interviewing for c50K roles... if I don't have the experience required for this role and salary, they must either be looking for top-end grads with high-level business acumen or looking to grossly under-pay some ex big four grad-scheme leavers. They don't respect your time and effort in applying here which is really disappointing and frustrating given how much the interview process requires. Overall though, my bad experience was entirely down to how poorly the recruitment process was managed.

Interview
Interviewed for the Junior Consultant position at HSM and went as far as the third round; I'd accepted an offer elsewhere by the fourth round, but I felt very positive through my HSM interviews. Everyone I spoke with was genuinely kind, intelligent, happy to expand on the role and instantly put me at ease. There was an assessment for the third interview, which was perfectly reasonable and gave a good sense of what working in the role may entail. If you're looking to work with an engaging and kind team doing incredibly meaningful work, HSM is a great fit!
