      Front End Engineer Interview

      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Health Gorilla

      Interview

I want to say first and foremost that I normally never write reviews. But because of the horrific experience I had with Health Gorilla, I need to share. I want to add right off the bat; my recruiter was terrific. She was kind, pleasant to speak with, and took my post-interview feedback quite well. Other than the last-minute interview scheduling, she did an excellent job in the general recruiting process and made me feel welcomed. The manager I spoke with was also quite pleasant. But, all because of one person, this was the worst interview I've ever gone through. I've been through horrible interviews in the past, but none equated to this. Reason: the technical interviewer. He was rude, impatient, and was criticizing all my solutions to the given question. I believe it's basic tech interviewing etiquette to allow interviewees to think over a problem and provide a few approaches. The interviewer could make suggestions and guide them through the process. However, this interviewer questioned and critiqued even my thought process, barely allowing me to add in code. When I did provide a solution, it was a decent one. It was a scalable solution. But, unfortunately, it wasn't what he was looking for given the simplicity of the question. So, he then started to reprimand my approach, saying it was too complicated, etc. All the while, his frustrations became apparent as he leaned over, put his hands on his forehead, and sighed all the way throughout our conversation. He undermined my ability to do basic coding. His thoughts were all over the place as he was trying to explain a solution due to his frustrations. He was impatient. As a cherry on top, towards the end of the interview, he proceeded to criticize my personal website out of nowhere—a website with the sole purpose of showcasing work I've done, nothing more. The conversation alone made me want to forgo this opportunity at Gorilla Health. No one wants to work with someone who doesn't listen. But overall, I'm sure that there are plenty of others in this company that are amazing people. It just takes one person to turn around and never look back, especially someone I could potentially be working with.
