Internally - you only have to have an interview if you are not one of the 'fortunate' ones who just get the promotions without interview. HR & the management know who is going to get the job pre interview. If you are not liked by one person n the management - they will all hold you back from any kind of promotion. They pick who they like and the interview process is a formality.
