      Developer Interview

      Aug 8, 2018
      Anonymous employee
      Hollywood, CA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Heartbeat (CA) (Hollywood, CA) in Oct 2017

      Interview

I applied online and got an email back about a day later to schedule a phone call. I had the phone call wherein I talked about my experience, asked a few questions, and things seemed to line up. We scheduled an in person interview, and I met first with the CTO, then did a quick programming test (had an hour to get as far as I could) met the lead developer, came back a few days later to meet with the COO and CEO (separate meetings but on the same trip over)

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

The question was a blank environment set up to test the items on my resume that qualify as full-stack. It was a test for understanding of frontend work, deep knowledge of javascript (talking structure and best practices, callbacks, event bubbling, some obscure stuff that's actually pretty easy), database calls, structure normalization, and an understanding of computer science (theory wise, not just languages) The hardest part of the interview was paying attention to the screen during the test - I interviewed while they were in their tech stars phase so there were a ton of people running around making noise outside the room.
