      Account Executive/Account Manager Interview

      Aug 25, 2021
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Burlington, MA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Highwire (Burlington, MA)

      Interview

The process was strung out over a month with multiple phone calls, email exchanges and different positions in consideration. There were many, many questions being asked of me that I simply could not answer due to company policies and customer information. I followed the guidelines for the presentation that was required but when we sat down and even before I began to deliver it, I was bombarded with questions and attitudes which made it clear that the format was to simply pick apart every minute detail and I needed to defend myself and the information I was simply trying to deliver in the form of a role play - it was not a great feeling. It felt as if there was no appreciation or respect to the fact that I took time and effort to put together a presentation only to be peppered with extensive questions that did not even apply to my current job. I also kindly asked that at the end of the presentation we could collaborate and discuss some solutions, yet was being cut off repeatedly. It felt as if no matter what I was saying, it didn’t matter. The questions were not pertaining to my ability to perform in this role, rather they were directed at my current employer and centered around things outside of my control. To that end, it was a very uncomfortable experience. I took an entire day of my time to interview with many team members and be taken out to lunch just to get rejected. Horrible experience and clearly the company has lots of learning to do on their end.

Thank you for sharing this feedback. I'm sorry to hear that you didn't have a great experience during the day in the life. You also shared this feedback with me directly via email; I appreciate that you were open to having a direct one-on-one dialog about it. I wanted to share some of what we talked about here so future candidates can hear how we've taken your feedback to improve our process. The client presentation exercise you were asked to do in the final interview was designed to closely replicate a day in the life as an account manager at ConstructSecure. We created the presentation to assess the specific skills required for the role and presented all of our finalist candidates with a very similar set of questions in the scenario. Your feedback about feeling unequipped to answer questions during the presentation due to privacy concerns stood out to us, and we used it to update the presentation instructions for future candidates. We now make it explicit that candidates may anonymize client information as much as they need to protect confidentiality. It was useful feedback, and we appreciate that you took the time to share it with us. We enjoyed getting to know you, and wish you all the best in your future endeavors.
