      Game Designer Interview

      Sep 22, 2020
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Vancouver, BC
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at IGG (Vancouver, BC) in Sep 2020

      Interview

I had an interview with IGG in Vancouver and it was the absolute worst experience I've ever had. The Producer (some guy from mainland China) who interviewed me told me that my experience is not relevant, and whatever games I have worked on is incomparable to the multi-million dollar revenue game that they're doing. (Which makes me wonder why they ask me to do a face to face interview under the COVID pandemic in the first place) Then he looked at my portfolio, one of the games in my portfolio caught his eyes and he told the other two staff in the room to "let's take his idea and put it in our next game". He then told me that he is not going to hire me but I'm more than welcome to give him more ideas of similar game mechanics and maybe after he look at them, he may hire me in the future. There is little to no respect for me or my work, yet when they see something of value they will just steal it right in front of you. Unbelievably unethical and full of arrogance, really shows what kind of company this is.

      Interview questions [2]

      Question 1

What kind of software do you use for game designing?
      Answer question

      Question 2

(After bragging about their games making multi-million dollars per month) Have you shipped any games that make over 30 million dollars a month?

      Interview

The interview is conducted entirely in chinese, even though such a requirement was ever mentioned at all in the job posting. Interviewers are friendly and asks about my previous experiences, provided some insight into the job scope of the company.
