      Senior Network Engineer Interview

      Dec 31, 2025
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at ITInfra in Dec 2025

      Interview

I interviewed for a remote Senior level Network Engineering role for this small government contractor. The President of the company was conducting the interview himself. There was no attempt to question or assess my technical skills at all. The questions revolved around only the baseline qualifications & certifications (in which I had), why I am open to a new role, and compensation. When I posed my questions about the mission of the contract, details on high-level deliverables, and program roadmap, nothing could be answered with any detail at all. Upon further questioning, it was discovered that the organization was in the RFP process, did not have a contract, and was searching for candidates for conditional offers. To note, once my compensation expectations were discussed, the tone and opinions of the interviewer became somewhat condescending and even mentioned engineers being "a dime a dozen". Which is true for those calling themselves engineers, but quality engineering talent in the GovCon space for anyone experienced in the industry is exceptionally rare. Overall, I felt this would not be the right fit, and my experience, skills, and future prospects would be hindered if I were to accept this conditional role.
