      Product Manager Interview

      Interview

I never leave reviews on this site, but I feel compelled to share my thoughts on this one. I had a successful phone screen with a senior manager and he asked me to come in for a face-to-face. He seemed to be very interested in my background and skillset. Upon arriving, I first met with the SVP Managing Director. Our interview went exceptionally well and we spoke for an extended period of time. The SVP is someone that anyone would love to work with; a very "down to earth" and relatable gentleman. Next, I met with the senior manager who initially asked me to come in. He decided not to ask me much questions since I successfully answered everything on our phone call. He turned the table over to me to ask questions. I asked many detailed questions about the role including business and technical questions. I knew the answers for every question I asked since I had done some extreme research about the organization prior to the interview. I decided that it would be best to show my engagement towards this opportunity. We finished our conversation on a good note and he handed me his business card. The next day I received a call from my recruiter that the senior manager decided to pass on me because I needed more experience. How did you come up with this conclusion when you never asked me any questions at the interview? I came to the interview very confident and expressed my knowledge in the field. I decided to call the senior manager direct to ask if he would be kind enough to inform me of my shortcomings and offer some advice on areas of improvement. He says "I'm traveling now, but I will speak with you on Monday." I already knew that was another false tale and he definitely didn't call. A few days later, it's yet another debunkable excuse given to my recruiter that decided to inquire since he was also left dumbfounded. To be honest, I now believe it had more to do with my skin color than my experience. The senior manager was obviously expecting a different type of person at the interview. He could have avoided wasting my time and his by taking a look at my Linkedin profile picture before having me come in. I found this whole process quite distasteful and disappointing. My wife will be closing her accounts with this company.

The process had three phases, well-structured, transparent, and clearly communicated regarding the phases and next steps. The first was a screening call with HR, then a 45-minute call with a Senior Director, and the final phase was a panel with three directors that included questions and a case.

      Interview

Inspira uses a standard 3 step process: screen, senior director interview, panel interview. Screen: recruiter explained the company and position and really went the extra mile to set me up for success. They let me know who I was meeting with and what they'd be looking for and to just relax and treat it as a conversation. Senior Director Interview: very transparent and direct conversation that delved into my background and metrics from my resume which I appreciated. They asked challenging questions and had great back and forth. 3 person panel with case study: I was prepared for a full on case study and this one was a little more fluid than other's I have done. the panel consisted of the hiring manager, design lead and business transition manager. The case was a generic one which I appreciated, I had come with my standard PRD but they were more concerned with my thought process and how I worked through each stage of the development process. Once they had enough we'd fast forward in the scenario. At the end I was given a chance to ask my own questions and they had excellent answers.

They asked me how I arrived at the metrics on one part of my resume and then how that translated into value.

      Interview

I had 3 rounds of interviews with the recruiter , Senior Director and a panel interview . I was told the role I am interviewing for has not been opened yet but should be posted soon. The panel interview was meant to be a whiteboarding working session but that was never communicated to me prior to the interview, and I did not have a compatible device . I think the interview still went well at least it seemed like that to me, but I haven't yet heard from the recruiter on a final decision ( one way or the other ) despite multiple follow ups. I understand, if they didn't want to move forward with me or the position went on hold, but having absolutely no communication or closure has been a very disappointing & unprofessional experience.
