I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at JCPenney (Chattanooga, TN) in Sep 2015
Interview
I applied online and was called less than a week later to come in for a group interview. This group was myself and 3 others sitting at a table together with the hiring manager and human resources manager sitting beside the table. The environment is very relaxed. The interview started out as just a casual introduction of one another, say your name, your experience in retail, why you'd be great working for Jcpenney. Then, the jobs that were available were explained. After this, we were put to the task of building a structure out of small, stacking wood blocks. How it works is you rotate leaders and the leader instructs the others on what to build next, only being able to view the image of the structure for 10 seconds. Then the leader rotates and this goes on for a total of 15 minutes with the goal of it being to have the structure built perfectly. The managers are able to see how you interact and lead/instruct or take instruction from others. After this, we were each given a sheet of paper with 4 new ideas Jcpenney has catering to a specific department. Your task is to pick which idea you think would be best for the store and jot down why you think so. For example, one member of my group receive a sheet on ideas for the Kid's department and chose an in store arcade as the best idea. After this, we presented (about 30 second presentation) our ideas to the managers stating the points we jotted down. Then, out of all of our ideas, we were given 5 minutes to choose one and present it to them. Finally, another manager came in and gave us an opportunity to ask questions. Lastly, the human resources manager went through everyones application and reviewed the job you applied for and gave the opportunity to change that decision based on what they have available and your availability is confirmed. This was the end of the interview and by far the best interview i've ever been a part of. I feel they really get to see you in your natural state and you're more comfortable and calm with others in the room.

Question 1
Why would you do well for Jcpenney as an employee?
Easy, got hired in 1 week and was able to start as soon as possible. It was a good process and I liked the people I interviewed with. The culture is off to a positive start.
The interview process begins with an initial screening to review qualifications and experience. Selected candidates then participate in one or more interviews with the hiring team, which may include behavioral and role-specific questions. Final candidates may be asked to complete an assessment or meet with senior stakeholders before a hiring decision is made. Candidates are kept informed throughout the process.
