With vast experience of eight years in writing, i applied for the senior designation in content writing in Jade Global for their Pune office. The first question HR asked me through LinkedIn was whether i had previous experience in IT industry. Even after I told HR i did not have previous experience in IT industry, i was given a written test. It was two topics related to IT and i was supposed to write around 500 words each. I was confident that I will crack it as writing is my forte (irrespective of topics). HR ( who obviously satisfied with my writing) called me for F2F interview. Now it was the time where I witness company’s mismanagement. I thought someone who has similar or more experience than me in content writing will take my interview. However, the person who interviewed me was from digital marketing and he had zero knowledge about content writing. He was extremely rude as he was interrupting me in between when i was answering his questions ( which was not related to content writing). It was icing on the cake that his English was extremely bad and he couldn’t even construct one sentence properly. As I was working with market research company, i never used some tools such as Marketo, Pardot etc. and i told my interviewer that I never got an opportunity to use these tools but I am willing to learn these skills which will improve my experience and knowledge. He finished the interview hurridly in 10 minutes and said that I can leave. After three days of constant follow up HR told me that I haven’t selected. I didn’t wonder as I was expecting this result with a interviewer who had zero knowledge of writing. 1) Every industry had different writing style and they use different tools. These tools and techniques can be learnt in just 10 days since you join the company. So what is important in content writing is rich, SEO friendly content and not tools 2) There are many companies ( even a big one) which give you a written test and they use your rich content on their websites. Just imagine they make you work free for them. I guess Jade Global is among them 3) The company which has three offices in India do not have a proper person to take interviews I will advice people especially those who are in content writing to not to trust this company. It is a basic thing in any company to appoint a person with at least eight years experience in respective field to take interviews but i feel really sad after what i had experience in Jade Global which claim itself as a big IT outsourcing company.
