      Interview

Applied in October for their graduate position. Received an email three weeks later for an informal interview with the director responsible for graduates. Very friendly atmosphere and the usual questions really HR questions were asked. Questions like: Tell me about yourself, Why JW, why you chose your university, your optional modules, where do you see yourself in 5yrs, your skills. These kind of questions.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at James Walker Mfg (Cockermouth, England) in Feb 2020

      Interview

Sent CV and covering letter to a job posting on Gradcracker. About a week later I was asked to fill out a quick questionnaire about myself then got invited to a skype interview then the assessment centre about a month after that. The guy who runs the assessment process and the grad programme is a really nice guy. In the skype interview he asks a lot of questions about you to see if you’re a good fit for the company. It felt more like a chat than an interview. I researched the company and their products and talked about that which I think he liked. The assessment day, I started with the technical interview which was hard enough. It’s based on their products so again researching the company and their products will be extremely helpful here. Next was numerical and verbal reasoning tests, just the same tests that you get when applying online for the bigger companies except here you fill it in the text book. I found the more of these I did throughout the year the better I got. Then a tour of their facilities and products which is interesting Then lunch, after we did a group exercise were we each had a candidate for a job and we had to discuss who would be best for it. Lastly the interview, it’s pretty long, if I remember right it’s over an hour. Try to have loads of examples of things you’ve done so you aren’t talking about the same thing over and over again. Again I talked about the company and their products which helped. Looked like a great company to work for. They pick you up from the train station, organise a B&B for you to stay, reimburse food for the night before and leave you back to the train station after the assessment centre. The guy, mentioned earlier is very organised and keeps you updated really well throughout the whole process. I was offered a job but unfortunately due to coronavirus this had to be withdrawn.
