I applied online. I interviewed at Joby Aviation in Aug 2020
Interview
Started with several phone interviews with system engineers, followed by on-site interview with cross functional team members including powertrain design, reliability, testing, and certification. About 50/50 split between situational and technical questions.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Thermal convection and structural analysis related questions.
I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Joby Aviation (Santa Cruz, CA)
Interview
Strictly the facts of my personal interview experience:
1 on 1 - went great
2 on 1 - went great
1st zoom panel - went great
2nd zoom panel - went great
Salary discussion prior to onsite - numbers look good
Onsite panel - 6 interviewers, first 5 went great! In the last 10mins of the last interview it all went wrong big-time. Last interviewer was brand new that day (1st day of work). He filled several of the roles I was interviewing for and to finish the interview literally asked "so then, what value do you bring to team?"
I came to Joby with relevant experience from a similar program, had a pretty solid recommendation, but was passed over after 2 months, and 10 positive interviewers.
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Joby Aviation in Jan 2019
Interview
I applied online, and received an email to do a phone interview a couple of weeks of later. After the phone interview which was a mix of behavioral and technical questions, I received an invitation to do a design challenge related to the project and was allowed four days to complete it. Once completed and submitted, all e-mail communication ceased.
