      Associate Product Manager Interview

      Mar 14, 2022
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at JustFix.nyc

      Interview

I made it to the final stage of the process. There was an initial phone screener with HR, an interview with 6 employees the role would be working with. The final stage is a 3 parter: 3 references, a skills test, and an interview with the entire company (11 people at once). The process took four months in total , and was very unprofessional and unusual. After inviting me to a second interview right after the screener, they took 6 weeks to get back to me after the second interview after giving me a time frame of 1 week and a couple of follow ups on my part. At that point, I had assumed I had not gotten the role. In spite of a background in housing rights and public interest being a "nice to have" on the posting, they asked me more questions on this than on my actual experience and skills related to the role in the first two interviews. This was almost completely left to the third stage which seems illogical. If my skills did not match the role, I would have preferred to find out earlier before putting so much time and effort into it. Something I found problematic was that they called my references before the skills test and final interview. This is typically done right before an offer is made after the final interview. Calling references before is inconsiderate because candidates are asking a considerable favor of their former colleagues and it's not something you want to ask of your references often. Finally, after again, a four month process, and considerable effort on my part including an intensive process including a difficult and time consuming skills test, I received the stock rejection e-mail usually reserved for applicants whose resumes are rejected. When I asked for feedback, I never got a response. JustFix seemed like such a cool company of caring people and does amazing work. While everyone seemed very nice, and I'm sure are very stretched, it is always tremendously disappointing when organizations show a lack of respect towards applicants and conduct the interview process in complete contradiction with their stated values. It is important for JustFix to recognize the huge power imbalance they are exploiting when they don't treat (often unemployed) candidates humanely and show a disregard for their time and labor. I'm rooting for JustFix to expand on their incredible work and hope that as they grow, they extend their values to everything they do. If this is the typical process, they are going to lose amazing potential candidates.
