Ghosted!! My experience interviewing for KAI (for a position I was more than qualified for) was pretty demoralizing. They called and set up an interview with the CEO, VP for Meeting and Event Planning, and the HR rep. Only the VP for Mtg and Event Planning and HR rep showed, and the VP was actually driving in a car the whole time distracted. The interview itself wasn't hard, mostly just asking my work-related experience, nothing deep, but I definitely felt on edge by the whole distracted interviewer thing. It honestly didn't feel like they cared if I or they were present. One significant thing was that they expected me to hit the ground running, know all their processes, software, everything, in less than two weeks (red flag/no pressure). The clincher, though, was that they said the HR rep would follow up soon with next steps. I emailed a heartfelt thank you right away, and then crickets. I followed up a week later, crickets. The only way these companies are going to stop the cruel process of ghosting is if we fight back. It's wrong. If you take the time to research a company, put your all into applying for their jobs and agree to an interview, they could at the very least respond and say a polite 'thanks but no thanks'. The other thing is if you look on KAI's website, their team is entirely comprised of tribal/nation native Americans. It's also extremely possible that KAI, in order to keep the appearance of being an equal opportunity employer, goes through the motions of interviewing people from all races, but ultimately will only hire native Americans. That's cool, but if this is the case, they have unethical hiring practices, and they should, in my opinion, be even more kind to the non-natives who are applying.
