I had a 10 minute interview with the Assistant Director. It was quite pleasant and she invited me to an interview later that week. I went in, we met in her office for a few minutes of conversation on my resume and then she dropped me off for 30 minutes in a classroom to interact with the kids. At the end of the time, she asked how it went and then said that they were hiring quickly and she would write me back the next day. I didn't hear back for two weeks. Then she emailed, asking me to come in the next day, which I couldn't do. We scheduled for the following week. This time she asked that I teach the kids a lesson. What I didn't know before I arrived was that not all the two years olds were verbal, like they had been in the first classroom. The lesson went ok. I was not informed that I would be taking the place of a teacher for 90 minutes, I had only agreed to a 10 minutes demo lesson and was nearly late to my next engagement. Again, I was told they wanted to hire quickly. As of more than a week later, I have not heard back and am moving on to other employment. The company seemed great for the kids and the teachers genuinely cared but the quoted pay and hours were low and there seemed little room to advance. Despite years of childcare experience, I had the feeling my lack of degree in Early Childhood Education was making them uneasy.
