      Housekeeping Interview

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Liberty Inn (Jacksonville, NC) in Jun 2015

      Interview

Applied in person and was asked to come back in two days. I was asked a lot of personal questions such as what I do outside of work, I was asked what brought me to the town, and things of that nature. I was mainly talked to about expectations and was asked why i wanted to work there and what I could bring to them as an employee. It seemed she didn't like the fact I was going to school. She also asked why I chose the degree program I chose (which had nothing to do with hospitality or the job I was applying for). She seemed to not like the fact I was going to school and the minumum wage job at the hotel wouldn't be my only focus in my life. She said she applauds me for bettering myself, but she was really wanting someone who planned to stay there and was passionate about what they were doing there at the hotel. When I told a friend about the interview they felt a lot of questions I was asked were inappropriate. Looking back I also feel that way. I was told they were looking for someone with good work ethic and that planned to stay with the company. Apparently she felt because being a housekeeper wasn't my dream job that I felt great passion about doing meant I wouldn't work hard. On the contrary, I work very hard at anything I do. I only added the portions about what she said to me to help people who may be applying. She went on and on about how strict she was about having everything just right but never once asked me if I had an issue with making sure all of the standards are met, to me that's basically the same as saying you feel like I would be a bad employee. This feels a little like a form of discrimination, but I really don't know what it would fall under. Discrimination against people trying to better themselves??? I guess my only suggestion is act like working at a hotel is your life goal?
