The company is operating as a startup, so their hiring and HR practices are nowhere as smooth or refined as established organizations.
One of their current employees reached out for an interview. They were nice with flexibility in offering to interview according to my availability. However, on the day of the interview it became apparent that they did not have a very good plan in place, with respect to the order of interviewing candidates. The person who had invited me wasn't present. Other employees were asked to fill in, who were very busy. There was a constant churn in the interview panel, in which employees would come, talk / ask questions for a few minutes, and leave in a rush due to issues with their running experiments. This sort of process is disrespectful to the potential candidate who has taken the time and effort to prepare thoroughly for the interview. Also, some of the "interviewers" are themselves very new to the organization, with less than 6 months of experience, and it is difficult to get a sense of the company from these panelists.
