      Full Stack Javascript Engineer Interview

      Nov 22, 2017
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Lumenalta in Nov 2017

      Interview

TL;DR The company sounds fun, and boasts a lot of freedoms, but like nearly every other interviewer on this site has said, they aren't willing to pay for the talent that they're looking for. Only a very talented junior engineer, or someone that doesn't understand their own value would accept a range that they seem willing to pay. === Very comfortable interview process. First I met with a talent screener which consisted of your average questions: "What have you been doing?", "what's a difficult problem you've solved?", "What are your interests?". It went smoothly, if a bit brief, but the brevity left me feeling off. Roughly a week later I was contacted for a follow up with management. This zoom call was just as laid back and felt quite a bit better. I was asked what I've been working on and how that's been going. We talked a little on comics, which was cool, and then we hit on price (which was entered into the online application) and the call was ended almost directly due to it. It seems like they want the best talent but for a very small portion of what that talent would/is/can make elsewhere. I was told that they see my requested range, but typically for people with more years of experience. There was no further negotiation which leads me to believe that they were likely looking to pay out 50%, which I find odd considering they knew my requirement before the interview process began.

Thanks for the excellent feedback! The opportunity at Clevertech exists for talented developers who are not in high cost of living cities. The freedom of remote work allows Clevertech to target experienced developers who have chosen to eliminate their commute time, spend more time with their family, or have other activities. In our experience we more likely to work with a developer in Jacksonville, FL rather than Silicon Valley. And, in those cases, we work with them for a long time. We look at the whole picture of what each person can contribute and look to create a win-win situation for the long-term.
