      Engineer-software Design and Development Interview

      Oct 19, 2015
      Anonymous employee
      Coopersburg, PA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Lutron Electronics (Coopersburg, PA) in Oct 2015

      Interview

Applied online through glassdoor and got response (about a month later) for an phone screen. 2 phone interviews, one HR screen and one technical screen. After this I was called onsite to their headquarters at Coopersburg,PA. They give a tour of their experience center showcasing all their new and upcoming technologies. Then the interviews started around 9 and went on till around 4:30 with a few minutes of gap between each 60-90min interview. The guy who took my technical phone interview took me out for lunch to a nice restaurant and was nice and friendly and helped calm my nerves for the rest of the day. Great experience talking to some very smart and innovative people. A couple of days after the interview they started calling my references. Now I thought they would let me know before they call but they didn't and I couldn't let my references (previous and current bosses!) know ahead of time, anyways it turned out okay I guess. On speaking to my references later, I found out that it was like a 30-40 minute mini interview for them asking detailed questions about me varying from personality to cooperativeness to technical success/failures etc! So think carefully before putting down references. After this I was asked to take an online personality/IQ test and submit my transcripts. A couple of days after finishing the test and uploading the transcripts, I got the all coveted offer call!

      Question 1

Forget about specifics and make sure you have your CS fundamentals brushed up and wear your "Analytical Thinking" hat on that day. They don't care too much about implementation details in any specific language, they want to make sure you can come up with efficient solutions using object oriented design and how passionate you are about your technology. I had a feeling they value interpersonal and communication skills very highly as well. Be relaxed and as said before keep your analytical thinking hat on all the time. It gets a little exhausting towards the end.
