      Data Scientist Interview

      May 12, 2026
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at M Science

      Interview

I passed the hr and hiring manager screens but failed at the technical interview round. Hiring manager asked a series of data related questions while technical round need to write the code to manipulate data. And they are using databrick notebook and remote zoom in to do the live coding which I was not expected, as I was told by hr it would be a leetcode style coding test.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at M Science (New York, NY) in Apr 2021

      Interview

The process involved an initial zoom screen with some technical questions. Then, it entailed a take-home project. After completing this, I had two more zoom calls with other members of the team. Everybody was extremely nice, smart, professional, and seemed like they would be great to work with.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

They asked about basic data science principles which, for me, was fine. The hardest part was being asked questions where there was not an obvious solution. They value creativity, rather than rote mechanical thinking it seems. The process was very fair and I think this company has a bright future in the space in which it operates. Best of luck to them.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at M Science (New York, NY) in Apr 2021

      Interview

I applied online and the recruiter reached out to me on LinkedIn and we got on a phone call quickly to discuss the role and next steps. Then I was given a 90 min challenge which consisted of a coding test - python and SQL and questions involving excel workbooks/pivot tables. Additional 10 minutes were provided for candidates who had working experience on Tableau. The SQL question were not medium difficulty and python coding problem was similar difficulty. Questions on excel and tableau were simple if one knew about pivot tables. After the test I was asked to speak with two quantitative analysts where they asked about my background and interests. They gave a case study based problem and asked what different metrics I would come up with. The final round was with the head of product and I had a very friendly chat with her followed by an offer. The recruiter coordinated all interviews via linkedin messages. While not conventional, I found it to be pretty efficient to schedule interviews rather than back and forth emails. Before the final round the recruiter pretty much gave me an idea that MScience was interested in hiring me and would offer me the position pretty soon.
