      Word Processing Secretary Interview

      Feb 3, 2019
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Long Is City, NY
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at MTA (Long Is City, NY) in Jan 2019

      Interview

According to my temp agency, GoodTemps, I was to meet with two women about a secretarial position. I, instead, met with three different people, two of whom spoke, the head supervisor did not. They barely made eye contact. They did not get up from the table to shake hands; very unfriendly. The woman introduced herself as the supervisor and gave a run down on the position which sounded very different from what I received from my temp agency. This position was to be a data-entry focused job, whereas, it turned out to be one that was more like a high-pressured receptionist, or customer service rep job. She asked the IT guy if he had any questions and he kept asking me about dates on my resume. He seemed oddly hostile. I hadn't submitted an updated resume because I had just started working a temp assignment. He seemed confused by the last date on my resume, even though it was explained. Then he asked me if they were to contact me to start on the next day, would I be available, and I said no, but I guess he didn't like that I paused. He explained that the position was really a call center position, where the person would receive upwards of about 200 calls per day for people requesting paratransit applications or making complaints. He downplayed the administrative parts of the position. After that debacle, they asked if I had any questions, and I asked the head supervisor if he wanted to say something and he laughed and said, "No." I had no questions for them because I was no longer interested in the position. I let my agency know soon after to remove my resume from consideration. I don't think the interview lasted more than 5 minutes.
