      Product Designer Interview

      Sep 1, 2019
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Los Angeles, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Mage Design (Los Angeles, CA) in Aug 2019

      Interview

Shady hiring practices. Before calling me in for an interview, owner requested that I submit a substantial design project as a skill test. This was after owner had already viewed a large portfolio of my work online to gauge my skill level. Amount of work requested in test project was unreasonable for interview, would have taken at least a day to do a good job, if not more. Also suspicious was that test project was directed towards a current large client of the firm. Who knows whether work would later be used for client without my consent? Or whether I would actually receive a job offer or not if I went to these great lengths? The work could have been used without any compensation, not worth the risk. Bullet dodged I guess.
