Thorough Interview Process for Junior Data Engineer position Pros: - Paid virtual on-site day showed respect for candidates' time - Opportunity to work on real-world problems - Chance to interact with the team and ask questions Cons: - Final exercise was overly complex for a junior position (color selector/scraper) - The instructions and the person I was assigned that day to help me out with that wasn't really helpful. It was a 3 part interview process. The first stage was a meeting with HR, the 2nd part involved a take-home coding exercise focused on working with weather API data and creating a database and API. This stage seemed appropriate for the role. The second stage was a paid virtual on-site day, which included a more complex task involving color selection / scraping the web for colors for e-commerce sites. While the exercise was interesting, it felt more advanced than what I'd expect for a junior role. Although I wasn't ultimately selected for the position, the process gave me valuable insights into the company's work. However, I believe the complexity of the final task might not accurately reflect the day-to-day responsibilities of a junior data engineer. Advice to Management: Consider aligning the interview tasks more closely with the expected responsibilities of a junior data engineer. Providing more detailed feedback to candidates after the process could also be beneficial for their professional growth.
