      Product Manager Interview

      Sep 29, 2025
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Matterway in Jul 2025

      Interview

      1. HR (30min) 2. CPO (2h + 2h: soft talks + 4 short live studies) 3. CEO + Head of Engineering (3h) This company looks really attractive from the outside: a radiant CEO, strong developers, good feedback from former employees. But there’s one “but” that specifically concerns the product department. The CPO thinks quite highly of himself, so don’t expect any apologies for rescheduled meetings, dragged-out calls, or other inconveniences. On top of that, be ready that in a 60-minute slot you’ll be tested cognitively, product-wise, design-wise, and engineering-wise all at once. The company is currently potentially preparing for a restructuring. Still, the C-level’s desire to keep things within a narrow inner circle will continue, which means limited opportunities for growth — including salary. Processes are messy inside, but thanks to big clients the company is slowly moving toward an M&A in a few years. If you’re looking for comfort, this is definitely not the right product environment. (Can’t comment on the engineering team though — from the looks of it, they seem to be doing really well.)

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Matterway (Berlin)

      Interview

During my interview, the CEO went into inappropriate and deeply personal questions about my private life. Some of my answers were judged in a disrespectful manner, and the tone felt dismissive rather than professional. Personality-based discussions should be handled carefully and only by trained professionals. In this case, the reactions and judgments went beyond what is appropriate or relevant for a job interview. No candidate or their family should be judged based on personal life choices. Overall, the experience felt excessive and uncomfortable for a professional interview setting. I would advise candidates to proceed with caution.
