Thoughtful Outreach, Poor Follow-Through — A Missed Opportunity for a Relationship-Driven Firm
Review Type: Pre-Interview Experience
I was contacted directly by a recruiter at McChrystal Group regarding what was described as a senior leadership opportunity within their consulting practice. The outreach was thoughtful, polished, and conveyed genuine enthusiasm about the firm’s mission, culture, and focus on building impact-driven teams. The recruiter’s initial communication set a high bar and created the impression of a firm deeply committed to relationships and transparency.
Unfortunately, that initial professionalism did not carry through the process. After a productive introductory conversation and several courteous follow-ups, there was no further communication — not even a brief closure note.
For a company that emphasizes authenticity, collaboration, and leadership culture, the silence was disappointing and inconsistent with the values they promote publicly.
Every interaction I had was respectful on my end, and I left the conversation genuinely interested in McChrystal Group’s direction. However, the absence of even a simple acknowledgment after engagement — especially at a senior level — suggests either internal disorganization, a lack of accountability in their talent process, or a culture that does not fully align with the relationship-first ethos they describe.
Professionally speaking, the experience was a missed opportunity for McChrystal Group to demonstrate the very principles it espouses: respect, transparency, and follow-through.
