I submitted a resume through LinkedIn. Two weeks later, I heard back from a recruiter who conducted a preliminary interview. The questions touched on my background, qualifications and availability. Later the same week, I received a writing test, which consisted of writing a spot story based on a news release.
A few weeks later, I was invited to a virtual interview with one of the editors. Lasting about 40 minutes, the questions touched on my background, reporting experience, and coverage ideas.
I was told that I should expect to hear back the same week but I did not get any updates. Two weeks later, I sent a follow-up email to the interviewer but received no response. After another two weeks, I noticed new bylines on their website and emailed the recruiter, who said they selected another candidate for the position.
Having made it through multiple rounds of their recruitment process, I found it discourteous and unprofessional that they did not inform me of their decision until I asked a second time.
