Even though Modicum went with the other candidate, this was one of the most exciting, transparent, and thorough job interview experiences I've had. Sarah, Modicum's in house recruiter, connected with me on LinkedIn and conducted an initial phone interview. Then I visited their office for a pair of hour-long interviews: one with the company's founder and an art director, and another with the president and head of account. I had lunch with the head of sales for the final interview.
Every one of the six people I spoke with was sharp as hell, passionate about their work, and genuinely interested in getting to know me. I got the impression that Modicum could have gone for growth like most NYC agencies but has instead focused on client quality, sane work/life, and projects that lead to excellent work.
At the end of the process, instead of sending a terse email, Sarah called me to say they were moving forward with another candidate. But then she went above and beyond, giving me genuinely useful behind-the-scenes insight into the process and what they felt were my strengths. The learning value alone made the process well worth my time, and I'll interview with them again if the opportunity arises.
