I had a phone interview with a designer from Monzo. During the interview, the interviewer asked me many questions regarding my past experience and also gave me a 5 minutes design task and asked me to talk about the design approach I would use to solve the design task. The interviewer also mentioned that they're not in a hurry to hire new designers because they already have around 30 designers in their current design team.
I received a rejection email after my interview. They only provided very general feedback - like the one you can easily find from online rejection email examples. They mentioned that "they are looking for someone who can create new ideas and ways of approaching the problem in the design challenge" However, I believe it's very difficult to create something very new in a just 5 minutes design task. Also, I felt it's just a waste of time when they don't really need to hire someone but still interviewing people.
Suggestions to your team: please don't waste candidates' time if you're not planning to hire anyone soon.
I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Monzo Bank (London, England)
Interview
Had to talk through a case study for about 20 mins and was told the next half hour would be for Q&A but on the day I was only asked about 2 questions which is a shame as I had really prepared for this bit and could have spent more time working on the presentation instead. The feedback was ok, in 2 minds about it as it was more of assumption and something I could have proven had I been asked at interview. Appreciated the speed in communication and making decisions and was good to get helpful information before the interviews.
