I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at National Building Museum (Washington, DC) in Apr 2014
Interview
The interview process is fun, thorough, and answers any questions you have. I brought a portfolio with me to show my more creative side, though it was not necessary (though the effort was appreciated). They care a lot about how you are able to handle students, as there are inevitably a few who have a tough situation at home and will bring that into the classroom.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
I'm paraphrasing a bit, but questions were along these lines:
Q: What was a difficult encounter you had with a past student or person you were working with? How did you resolve it?
Q: What is your teaching ethic/strategy?
Q: What would you do if you had a student who wouldn't stop giggling/distracting others?
Q: Why are you interested in teaching in this context?
