At the time my interview occur, it was on site and administrated by a supervising animator. Very friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
The first interview was based on a demo reel review and an onsite work test.
The onsite work test consisted of a basic animation walk cycle and dialogue animation.
I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Nelvana in Nov 2019
Interview
The overall process was great and very open. I had an initial phone screening which led to an in-person interview with the Manager and Director of the department. It was a comfortable atmosphere with some great out of the box questions.
I was then invited for a 2nd cultural fit interview. This was to meet with the whole team which spanned over 3 or 4 different departments. They stated this was to be roughly 15 minutes total but it went over by an hour as meeting multiple departments requires more time which is more than understandable.
I was told at the interview, that they would have a final answer by the following Thursday. The day came and went and there was no response from the hiring manager. I followed up and they stated that after the holidays they would come to a decision as they were busy. Again, understandable so I anticipated to hear back in the new year when things quieted down. Since then I did not hear anything further. They had essentially "ghosted" me after 2+ months since the process started.
It was great to see that they had moved forward with a candidate who most likely was a better fit, however, I had to learn this through Linkedin.
My only piece of advice is that it is common courtesy to let your candidates know if they were not the right fit. They have spent much time and effort to be present at the interviews and it's only fair to update them on the process. This clearly shows how they conduct themselves and carry a complete lack of regard for other people's time.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
What are your strengths, tell me about your self, what do you know about the company, why are you a fit etc.
I applied through college or university. I interviewed at Nelvana (Toronto, ON) in Apr 2019
Interview
Applied online through school. Got called in to office for interview. Interviewed with two to three different supervisors. Asked about my work and talked about the internship. Was given a tour of the office at the end. Pretty straight forward.
