      Interview

Screening, then a technical interview, then an hour long interview with the CEO. Had to submit 3 references and later learned from one of my references that their reference check was 20 minutes long. One of my references said she felt like she was being interviewed. I originally told the screener/recruiter my minimum salary which was the salary posted. She noted this and I did all the rounds including reference checks for the CEO to call and offer me $20,000 less than the original salary offered citing my geographic location as the reason for the bait and switch. I informed her that my location was actually quite expensive which it is if research was done. However, I believe they may be having money issues to pull something like this and cite geographic location as they knew where I lived the entirety of the interviews. I mentioned this every time. It was disappointing and I would encourage anyone willing to submit an application to send in writing your minimum salary requirements and request they NOT contact your references unless you all agree on an offer. I wouldn’t have even applied if I knew they would low ball me on the offer. Hardly anyone can afford a $50,000 salary and it’s a slap in the face to call someone experienced and offer that kind of salary citing there are performance based incentives. If that kind of structure was wanted I would have applied for a sales role. I applied because I believed in the mission and trusted that the company’s posting of the salary.

      Interview

I had a wonderful interview process and felt like I was really connecting with the management team. The process was flying in a way I haven't experienced for jobs before and I was feeling on cloud 9 and genuinely excited about the opportunity to do this work! They asked for my references and I thought I had it in the bag. This is where things fell apart. I waited over 2 weeks for the team to be able to contact my references and then once they were all contacted I received a very promising email about them "wrapping everything up" and would reach out the following day. Well they did. And they sent me a rejection. I have no idea where things went awry. My references told me they were under the assumption that the job was mine based on their conversations. I turned down two jobs for this one (which they knew about). I still believe I would be a great fit for this position and think they do excellent work, but the end of this process has put me in a really upsetting place personally, so I would just beware that they make interesting decisions.
