      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at New Venture Fund (Washington, DC) in Mar 2016

      Interview

I found the job online. I was very excited because it sounded interesting from the job posting. They responded more quickly than I thought they would (a few days) and we set up a time for an interview in person. Because of my schedule we had to schedule it 2 weeks ahead and while I thought that was a bit odd (most places prefer to get these done ASAP) it seemed there was good potential. The interview was with three people, two of whom I'd work with directly and the person who set up the interview. We went through my resume and they told me about the organization. It still seemed interesting, but as the interview went on I began to feel uneasy. In all honesty they seemed...puzzled by my application. They wanted to know how I felt about certain issues, what my political views were (which might seem a bit odd but given the nature of the job and the mission of the place I didn't mind). They wanted to know what drew me to the places I had worked at, and from the comments they seemed to imply I didn't feel enough "passion" (not sure if that's the right word but it's the best one I can think of) for their work. Which is odd because the job description was relatively vague and what is on the website is also not exactly great help for telling me what exactly they worked on. I was also put off by some of the interviewers in general. One only asked one question. Another openly slouched in his chair. They tended to shift around in their chairs and I was under the very distinct impression via body language they were bored and we weren't connecting. In retrospect I know there were questions I could have answered better and my performance could certainly have been improved upon but on the whole I didn't feel they really wanted me there. And I was right. I got a rejection about 3 days after I interviewed. Best scenario all around since the interview put me off the place, but it also felt like a waste of time considering the image they projected during the interview.
