Brief, 5 mins. Didn't ask me much. Only asked me the usual questions didn't tell me much about pay or what benefits I get. Afterwards he told me to start work right away, without me filling out any document for pay. Didn't get a uniform either.
I applied in-person. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at No Frills (Ottawa, ON) in Aug 2009
Interview
Hiring process began with a well-organized job fair. The store manager was the one doing the actual interviews. It was nice to see they didn't delegate the task to someone lower on the totem pole, shows they actually care about who's jumping on board. Fairly relaxed interview process, nothing too formal. Easy to talk to manager is friendly and has a sense of humour.

Question 1
It's a grocery store, they're not trying to throw any catch-22s your way. Be ready to tell them any hobbies or interests you have, how you'd handle a situation with a customer (might involve them stealing or acting belligerent. Obvious answer is "seek out a manager" for almost any situation.)
