I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Norcal Protection Services (Santa Rosa, CA) in Jan 2017
Interview
The interview process went smoothly and I was asked about previous employment and why I want to be a security guard. The interview process was followed by a mandatory ride along with a security officer. It went very well as well. In fact, afterwards I said I liked it and they hired me. I went in the following week to fill out tax forms and other paperwork. After the first day of training, I received a call saying they prefer other, more experienced security guards and that I wouldn't be hired. This sounds shady to me because when I went to pick up my check for 1 day of work and turn in my keys, the other co-owner was there and he had no idea I was let go and said his business partner didn't communicate with him about the decision. Yet the company just placed a new ad on Craigslist looking for entry level employees. They knew I had no security guard experience yet passed me through the interviews, made me do the ride along, and had me go through training (even just one day). Why lead someone along?

Interview
The interview was pretty standard and I feel like I answered the questions fairly good. I told them I was a college student and that I needed certain days off for that and they had no objections. I went for a ride along and I wasnt sure at first if the job was for me. Nick the owner called me a few days later and asked how it went and if I liked the job. I expressed my concerns and my ignorance to the field of security. Nick assured me that training would be provided and that I wouldnt go out on the route until I was comfortable. I accepted the job and everything has been great. We switched to a 4-10 schedule and I get my school days off plus one day to hang out with friends or just relax. I have a class set up to receive my baton permit and I am currently waiting on my firearm permit from the state. The owners care about their employees and it shows. This is a small business but I like the fact that if I have a problem I can go straight to the owner and get it resolved. I have seen others apply for the job and not get it but I think I like that they dont hire just anyone off the street.
