      Marketing Representative Interview

      Aug 25, 2021
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Oklahoma City, OK
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at OKC Expansion (Oklahoma City, OK) in Mar 2021

      Interview

This company is a scam. The interview process had red flags all over. Unbeknownst to me, the first interview was a zoom call with about 20 other candidates. The “owner” explained in very vague terms what the company does. They are a “direct” marketing firm (further research on “direct” marketing firms will lead you down some scummy organizations). They called me to come in to their office for an in-person interview the next day. The in-person interview was strange and everything they told me was EXTREMELY VAGUE. She told me that the position was 100% commission (not in the job listing), but she also made sure to tell me many times they “don’t want sales people.” Huh. So you don’t pay your employees a salary but your employees’ livelihood depends on sales? Strange. She kept using all these buzzwords like “direct marketing” and “brand awareness” and “relationship management” and how they’ve worked with cool clients like NASCAR and the NBA. It took me about 10 questions to finally get an answer on what they actually do and what product they actually sell. The interviewer then bluntly told me “we set up tents at retail locations and ask for donations for a charity.” So, you’re 100% commission, but you don’t want sales people, but you want people to beg for donations so they can make money? As I probed more and more, the interviewer kept getting short with me, almost as if I was just supposed to take all her fancy buzzwords that don’t mean anything as gospel. Despite getting increasingly frustrated with me over basic job questions, the interviewer gave me the job on the spot (another red flag). She also expected an answer right then and there. I told her I needed more time to think about the convoluted pay structure. I also asked about health insurance and benefits and she straight up would not answer me. The best I got was “we go through a third party so you would need to talk to them.” I told the interviewer I’d give her an answer the following day, knowing full well it was going to be a resounding no. I left their office feeling scammed. I feel sorry for some of the kids they recruit because they don’t know any better, as many are just entering the workforce. Their website offers nothing; no tangible information and their LinkedIn is completely dead and vague. If you’re considering this company and you just got your Degree, run away. Work for a company that actually pays their employee a salary with a clear benefit structure. This company will likely go defunct and change their name. This has happened with them before. This is an MLM. Plain and simple. Don’t give them your time or attention and hopefully they’ll quit scamming college kids.
