      Project Manager Interview

      Jan 10, 2025
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Chicago, IL
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Obie (Chicago, IL) in Jun 2024

      Interview

The first was phone interview was relatively quick and straightforward, and the interviewer was very pleasant. I was notified about a second interview, with the manager, which appeared to be more focused on providing information about the company and the role, while also giving me an opportunity to share some high-level details about myself and ask questions. I was told I would receive an email within a few days regarding whether I would be moving on to a third interview or if they decided not to proceed, but I never received any follow-up communication.

      Question 1

They asked me to share a bit about myself and my experience related to this role.

      Product Manager Interview

      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 8 weeks. I interviewed at Obie in Jan 2022

      Interview

A major waste of time. The recruiter found my profile on a job website and initiated contact with me, requesting I apply to their open position. After completing the extensive interview process, including spending 10+ hours on a project and presentation, I was told I would hear back with an answer within the next couple of days. A week goes by and I hear from the hiring manager that they had a major release and a company offsite and we’re unable to make a decision at that point. I was assured I would hear from them by the end of the week. A week goes by and nothing. Finally, on the day they said I would hear back from them at the absolute latest (at 8:30 pm on a Friday) the hiring manager emails me and asks if we can have a phone call. I agreed despite the evening request and on the call he provides a verbal offer saying that they put a lot of thought into the decision etc. He even goes as far as detailing that he will be sending me two offers, one that has proportionally higher salary and one that has proportionally higher equity. I should expect it either later tonight or first thing next week, I get off the phone and at that point I would have been able to look past the prior missed deadlines. This, however, was the last thing I ever heard from Obie. A week later I reached out to the hiring manager via email and as of today (weeks later) I have not received a reply. I have spent less time on interviews with FAANG companies than I spent on Obie, and to be ghosted like this is one of the most unprofessional and disheartening experiences I have been subjected to in my career.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Produce a product strategy document for a 'To do' list application. The prompt is extremely open ended and depending on how you interpret some of the questions, can require a huge amount of work to address properly. When I presented on the document there wasn't a single product person there and the panel seemed confused about the prompt and ended up just asking me interview questions that were based on my experience, not the prompt.
