      Salesforce Consultant Interview

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at OpenTent

      Interview

The first contact was a request to complete a build to meet requirements laid out in a scenario. I had 48 hours to complete it, starting on a date I chose. I was not supposed to take more than 2-3 hours to complete it, and then create a short video walking through my solution. The time limit was demanding - elements to the solution included data cleaning, importing the data to multiple objects, custom fields, reports, dashboard, mobile page, workflow rule, and an email template. I was a bit put off at the exercise being the first element, without there even being a phone call to start with. I was assured that I would get feedback on my solution, which I looked forward to even if I didn't advance. But the only feedback I received was a rejection email a week later. It felt disrespectful and ultimately made me question if I'd want to work there anyway.

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at OpenTent in Sep 2022

      Interview

Before I spoke with anyone at the company about the job or my experience, I was asked to do an exercise to set up a Salesforce org, do a small amount of configuration, populate it with data. I was also asked to be ready to speak about the data and issues I’d raise with the client. I was definitely a little put off by the exercise, since I was asked to put 3 in hours of work before anyone spoke to me. Additionally, as a Salesforce Consultant, the exercise was very easy and felt like a total waste of time. They could have gathered more about my expertise if they just spoken to me about my experience. After the exercise I spoke with someone at the company to discuss my data and architecture choices. I was then asked to speak with someone at the company with the same title, but was asked to do a case study before the conversation so we could discuss it. I finally spoke with two other folks at the company. The whole process was way too drawn out, and for such a small company it felt very impersonal. The whole process was a red flag for me.

Hi, thanks for your note and giving us the chance to improve. We appreciate the feedback - especially your feedback requesting more feedback from us! Our exercises are designed to be fairly difficult, since due to applicant volume and us being a smaller team, we need to screen for relevant technical ability before we can schedule a screening interview. But your comment that you were expecting more feedback from us even in the case of a rejection is a thoughtful one, and we are going to take that to heart and see what we can do to be able to easily and quickly provide our applicants with additional feedback after they complete the exercises. We hope you'll consider reapplying once you've further developed your Salesforce technical skills, and in return we promise to share with you more detailed feedback!
