      Course Advisor Interview

      Sep 20, 2017
      Anonymous employee
      Kingston, ON
      Accepted offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Oxford Seminars (Kingston, ON) in Mar 2015

      Interview

The interview process is lengthy, drawn out, and formal. I had 1 phone interview, and 2 two-hour-long in-person interviews concluding in a skill-testing, LSAT-style assignment. This was for the role of Course Advisor, which is the lowest ranking position within the company. When I moved into the role, it didn't take long to learn that the position was not as it was described throughout the interview process. Course Advisors work in a call-center, although the interviewers never use this term to describe the work environment. Otherwise, candidates would be understandably deterred. The interviewers over-sell the job, alluding to the possibility of promotions or the ability to make meaningful contributions to the company. Most Course Advisors are disappointed at the end of their tenure, never having made an impact but thrilled to escape the hostile and toxic work environment.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Oxford Seminars in Apr 2014

      Interview

Phone interview, two in-person panel interviews, aptitude test at the end of the first live interview. Very intensive hiring process as it's a small company and they want really good people. Most positions give you the interview questions about 15 minutes ahead of your scheduled interview which is a nice change from the norm.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Oxford Seminars (Kingston, ON) in Feb 2014

      Interview

Really long interview - over an hour. They seem to really want to find the right candidate but I didn't expect the interview to be so formal for this position. There were many different formal questions about all kinds of topics - just be aware that you will be asked many questions.

      Question 1

They asked about everything on my resume and any gaps in employment.
