      Business Intelligence Analyst Interview

      May 30, 2018
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Burbank, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Paramount (Burbank, CA) in May 2018

      Interview

I was contacted by a recruiting coordinator by phone & then scheduled to have a initial phone screening with the hiring manager. Everything went on pretty well & I was invited to an 2 hours 30 mins long on-site interview which was a combination of technical & behavioral questions. Later I was given a take-home assignment on Tableau & SQL Server which I'm sure I nailed it. During the interview, one of the hiring manager ended up giving me their email address which I thought was a good thing as that only happened at whilst I was interviewed at my current organization. A week later when I had emailed the recruiting coordinator, I got a call from one of them saying that the hiring manager was 95% sure to move ahead with my candidacy & would like to extend me an offer next week, he was just waiting for few things to happen. In fact, he ended up saying that the hiring manager was so impressed with my candidacy that they want to open up more technical position to hire me which would be similar to the one I had interviewed for. Also, the recruiting coordinator confirmed this in email that the next step as discussed over the phone will be an offer which "hopefully will be next week". After all this, I receive rejection email today from the same recruiting coordinator saying that they found a candidate who more closely aligns with their needs. Since things seemed to align well between me and CBS, I ended up declining other offer at hand as I was more interested in working with them. I don't understand how can someone be so unprofessional & unethical. I don't think the people at CBS understand different nuances & dynamics on the hiring front. It's not only preposterous but also hypocritical of any organization to first say to a candidate that we want to move ahead with you in email as well as over the phone and then send them a rejection email. Also, there seemed to be no sign of remorse on their part when I had sent them an email informing about me rejecting the offer on hand because of what they said. They weren't even courteous to answer my phone call or revert to my email which for some reason infuriated me more. This was one of the most unprofessional interviewing experiences that I've had. I would highly discourage anyone & everyone from even considering CBS Interactive as their future employer as they don't abide to what they say & are extremely fickle-minded. I wish taking names of the people involved in the recruiting process was allowed on Glassdoor just so everyone knows not to be in contact with them & perhaps some action could have been taken against them. Also, I wished there was an option of uploading screenshots of emails was allowed so that I could upload the email sent. The questions that were asked in the interview were okay-not that difficult if you are thorough with the basics of BI, SQL & Tableau in general, in fact one of the technical person on the interview panel seemed less knowledgeable to me as one of the questions that I had asked for the take-home assignment, they didn't answer it correctly which was something basic related to DBMS software

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Several Questions related to Tableau such as difference between Data Blending & Data joining, what is data visualization, what is the difference between groups & sets in Tableau, difference between live & extract mode SQL- How do you optimize the performance of the query What is the difference between UNION and UNION ALL different types of JOIN and when do you use them Several behavioral questions, one of the behavioral question that was repeated by all the interviewers - How do you handle a difficult customer & situation? Seems like they were preparing the candidate right from the interview process itself
