My interview was rescheduled twice. It took three weeks from the initial contact to speak with the director. Once I interviewed it was great, we hit it off and wanted to continue down the interview path with other managers and team members. A second panel was set up over zoom. I was honest and upfront about my experience and the team was great. They said they needed someone with my business experience and background. The director called me that same day (Monday) and verbally offered me the job and said the written offer would be to me Friday. He also mentioned even that if he didn’t hire me another department was so impressed that they wanted to hire me, so he was staking his claim and excited to offer it to me and have me onboard.
Friday came and I never received it and was told I would get it Monday. Then it was Tuesday and still nothing.
I got a call that evening and he said the CEO read a book that makes hiring a nightmare and he has to approve all hires and that I would get my offer Wednesday. The CEO also wanted my ACT score...
Still no offer in my inbox. Around 1pm I get another call from the director. He tells me that after all the back and forth the CEO wants someone with "amazon experience" and I won’t be getting the offer letter.
This was a new experience and one I hope to never have happen again. I’ve been without a job for a few months, this year has been incredibly hard, but without speaking to me or discussing my experience and what the team had seen in me, the CEO decided my year needed to see worse and not offer me a job I had clearly earned in the interview process.
