Question 1
What was a difficult situation I managed to move past
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Pinpoint Partners (London, England) in Apr 2024
Interview
You meet like 10-15 people over the course of 45 minutes and they make a decision when you leave the building. It is a good idea to see if the person is a good cultural fit.
I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Pinpoint Partners (London, England) in Jul 2025
Interview
Summarised ;
Was brought in for a in person interview under false pretences. I clearly stated the sector I specialised in and the sector I wasn't very knowledgeable in. They accepted that and told me I could specialise in that sector. We agreed to an in person interview and they knew I had to travel very far for this and spent a lot of money. To only get there and they hadn't actually prepared for this interview at all to then be told their not actually hiring the role I came in for, but the opposite actually the sector I told them didn't know. Im not sure if just complete incompetency or they just don't care.
Complete story:
After a successful first stage interview we discussed the role in depth and It seemed like a good fit for the both of us. Pinpoint recruitment operates in two key sectors finance and legal, I was very clear that my knowledge and expertise was in Finance not legal. The interviewer expressed that was perfectly fine that there was the option to specialise in just Financial sectors or do both and they could provide training.
We booked an in person interview for a week prior I was away at the time so it meant traveling 4+ hours so I could make this interview. I was greeted by the operations manager who conducted my first stage interview and was told this second stage interview will be with some team members as she felt I was suitable candidate already but it would just be about team fit.
This is where it takes a turn, They hadn't even planned where they were going to conduct the interview so we end up doing the interview in their shared building cafateria which was pretty busy at the time. They sent down two team members individually so its a one to one but I'm not sure these two had any prior knowledge that they would be doing this.
The first interviewer was a more a senior consultant member and very early on in the interview starts asking me legal technical questions. I expressed similarly as in the first stage my expertise was in finance and desire to join the finance team but committed to learning the legal sector. This is when I find out they planned for the next 4 hires to be joining their legal team. As much as I tried there wasn't coming back from that.
The second interviewer was a junior at the team, they were extremely nice and warm don't specifically blame them for this. Clearly didn't realise would be conducting an interview today. Half the interview was spent them trying to think of the next question to ask. Both interviews asked a lot of similar questions and were extremely lacking in quality and quantity of questions. I would have to ask a lot questions just as an attempt to demonstrate my knowledge.
