      Software Engineer-II Interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at PopCap Games

      Interview

I initially applied on recommendation from a friend who worked there via EA's online application platform. My application was rejected, and my friend spoke to their supervisor, who then (presumably) told the recruiter to reverse that decision approve my application for a phone screen. I proceeded to do said phone screen, which was followed by a more technical phone screen. After passing both of those, I was invited to a 5 hour on-site interview that consisted of a series of 1 hour interviews and a lunch break. One of the technical portions of the interview required pair programming.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Questions about algorithms (array manipulation, object-oriented patterns) and a question about architecture were the bulk of the on-site questions. The array-oriented algorithm question was done as part of the pair programming portion, and I found this to be the only part of the interview that was unsatisfactory. I was paired with an individual who appeared to be intentionally obstructing me by refusing to answer questions and saying "just do whatever you want", and would flat out tell me I was wrong about certain algorithmic aspects that I was actually correct about (which I attribute to their lack of familiarity with the language that we were using, in spite of that language being the language that I was being hired to write in).
