      Phoenix Beard GBR Cleaner Interview

      Jan 5, 2016
      Anonymous employee
      Saint Albans, England
      Accepted offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied in-person. I interviewed at Premier Support Services (Saint Albans, England) in Feb 2014

      Interview

The interview was friendly but very informal and unorganised as considerable time was spent by another in my presence looking for the official paperwork to fill in but then it was realised that the paperwork was not there so it had to be filled in during my induction four days later. I was not given a carbon copy of my contract so I had to spend a few weeks chasing it to ensure that I always had a hard copy in case of any non payment of basic pay, holiday pay, or agreed overtime. Seemed like such a simple job at first but it was not to eventually be and it turned into a nightmare. There was no written job description or specification provided, so this later allowed the company to add an additional task of sweeping the leaves outside of the office a year later. It was a big extra task where I was expected to complete within the given two hours as well as clean three toilets, mop reception and hoover a main stairwell and reception, plus more. The leaf sweeping was not mentioned from the beginning and was not freely disclosed to me until my second year. Neither was I consulted before I had been given the extra task, I requested extra time or overtime but this was skirted over, yet as a lone worker I was monitored when I did this extra task and I suspected that this visual information was fed back to those who needed to know how I was doing with the sweeping. Communications were made if not during my contracted hours but as soon as I had finished my shift for the day and had just left the premises. I witnessed this once when I was just about to leave and a call was received by a person who permanently on site in the mornings as it was known what time I started and finished. This also occurred once when I was outside sweeping and others above me were inside reception looking at the visual information. Also the original advertisement for this job stated 2.5 hrs per day but I was only contracted for 2 hrs Mon-Fri. The previous cleaner at this site had left 3 weeks before my interview but no one had covered the work for two weeks after he had left. It was said that the previous cleaner didn't let them know that he had resigned, but this seems very unlikely as he would have still been awaiting pay and I personally knew the cleaner.
