Process was in 3 parts. First two were fine. The last was very unpleasant.
The second part was challenging as it dealt with product related decisions and how I'd justify them. I actually enjoyed that one, left in good spirits and genuinely considered the company as one of my top choices.
Following this, the recruiter contacts me and says that they're inviting me to another final interview because they "weren't sure of some things". This would be with the front-end lead and the CTO.
The CTO basically leads the interview, and goes through my entire resume, asking my reasons for leaving each position. Including my student internships that took place over summer.
I explain that some of my more recent positions are short due to working in start-ups and them having to do redundancies. This is why I was actually on the job market again. On a personal note: it has been incredibly stressful the past year, having been laid-off twice in a row in a span of 5 months. I have letters of recommendation to show for this, and had even offered to provide them in my earlier interviews. Due to this, one of the things I had been emphasising in interviews was that I was looking for stability and longevity in my next role.
The CTO takes the above information and basically throws it in my face saying, "You say you're looking for stability, but you do not show this from your CV." He then goes back to my previous positions and questions again my reasons for leaving them. The entire thing felt hostile, as if I had done something wrong by even applying for this position with my current CV. Based on his behaviour, I wasn't sure I was even supposed to have made it to the final interview.
At this point I've made up my mind that I don't want to work there.
For some reason he decides that it's still appropriate to move on to a system design question. We did that for a solid 15 minutes or so, till the full hour. It was less unpleasant but I underperformed and honestly just wanted to run out the clock.
As soon as I left the building I texted the recruiter to pull me out of the process and after explaining what happened, they said they had at least one other candidate that had a similar experience.
I urge other applicants to read other Glassdoor reviews of this company, as I had failed to do so.
