      Software Engineer, API Interview

      Oct 5, 2019
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Recharge Payments

      Interview

I had a quick 30 min phone call with an external recruiter that ReCharge must use to screen applicants. The call was basic, just going through your résumé and related experiences. The phone call ended with an awkward "What's your experience with API's?" after I talked extensively about how I've integrated a SaaS product with dozens of API's and maintain one currently. The phone screen was enough to get passed on to the next step, which was a Google Hangout with the hiring manager (Adam). This interview was a disaster. Right off the bat, I could tell he had a pretty bad attitude as if he was annoyed that he had to do the interview in the first place. He asked nothing of my experience but instead asked things like "What do I like about Python" and "Why do I like Flask?". He then word vomited the tech stack ReCharge uses (Flask, MySQL, Redis, Circle CI, GCP) and then asked if I had any questions. I asked about the typical software development lifecycle to which all I got was "Agile Scrum". It was clear that not a lot of thought process was put into the hiring process or actual interview. Adam didn't want to have any type of conversation and lacked any type of enthusiasm. The interview lasted 20 minutes out of the 45 scheduled. I knew I had wasted my time. The next day I got "Unfortunately, we have decided not to proceed with your candidacy for the current opening at ReCharge Payments at this time." Truly the most unprofessional, unpolished interview I've ever been a part of. Good Luck!
