      IOS Developer Interview

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through other source. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Ritual (Toronto, ON)

      Interview

Perhaps their interview process has been refined since last year, but going by the other reviews on here, I doubt it. I was initially contacted by one of their employees over LinkedIn. There was no phone chat, it was straight to an online technical interview. I had 1-3 hours to complete this (can't remember). The challenge was based around incrementing numbers in an array, and multiplying one array with another, or something similar. I found the requirements extremely vague, and felt like they should have been on same level as a more collaborative and progressive tech company in how they aid you through the process like 2 work colleagues solving a problem. It wasn't collaborative, and anyone who's been in software for a while knows that clarifying requirements is half the battle. The cold process was exemplified in a curt response that gave no feedback. I was curious as to why they're constantly advertising for developers when it's obvious on LinkedIn they're not filling these positions, and from their process I can see why. They have bugs on their apps that would only take very simple solutions to fix (such as mapping, and Apple Pay failing), and I can also see the reason for this too. Their process was high on bureaucracy and politics and low on quality. Their arrogance bled through the whole process. They're well on track to bring the Uber culture to Toronto. I've interviewed at Google and Facebook, and their cultures are very different, and even the technical questions are more relevant. Ritual's practises are outdated by about 5-10 years.
