    Marketing Interview

Anonymous Employee in Saint Louis, MO
    Accepted Offer
    Negative Experience
    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at River City Marketing (Saint Louis, MO) in August 2015.

    Interview

I applied online, was called that very day and emailed. I called the receptionist back, who was very professional and she set me up with an interview for the following day. The next day I received a phone call and an email ( seems a bit much) reminding me of the interview. I arrived at a very "crappy" building and walked to the second floor. I opened the front door and there is was super loud music blaring and kids talking loudly...sounded like a party. Weird. I sat and filled out an application with 4 other people knowing already this wasn't for me...it was a cattle call. I listened to receptionist call at least 20 people while I was waiting for my interview. The interview was very short, and a basic waste of time. When he showed me the picture of the table set up at Sam's I almost laughed. I avoid those people when I go to Walmart and Sam's and now I was interviewing for a job to be one of them. ( they are selling directv service) Yikes... If you are desperate, still don't go. Get a serving job, it'll pay much better and you won't feel like a complete loser.

    Interview

Moved very quickly, in fact I was contacted on a Saturday to move forward with scheduling an interview. As I sat in the waiting room, I watched several people come check in for interviews themselves, which left me feeling like they are willing to interview just anyone.

    Marketing Representative Interview

    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at River City Marketing (Saint Louis, MO) in December 2016.

    Interview

I applied, then received a phone call the following day inviting me for an interview. Interviewed the following day and was invited for a second interview the same day. The preliminary 'interview' lasted about 6 minutes. I was not asked a single question regarding my experience or professional goals. Instead, I was given a run down of the training program and sent on my way, with the expectation that I would complete an 'in the field' interview as the next step. I was not given any opportunity to ask questions I had and left feeling confused and skeptical of the company as a whole. While they promise room for advancement, I wasn't given any information about what specific things I could expect to do as an employee. Additionally, it seems to be a one-size-fits-all position. Everyone starts out in the same position and can advance to the same position; nothing is skill/background specific from my understanding.

While there for my interview, I saw 7 other candidates coming in for interviews. Based on the number of people I saw and the reviews I read online prior to my interview, it appears that they are always hiring and may cycle through candidates/employees quickly.

To anyone planning to apply/interview, expect to do in-store sales at places like Sam's Club, Costco, etc. as a part of the interview process. It appears that the position is extremely sales/commission based and relies on the sales made at retail locations.

    Account Executive Interview

    Anonymous Interview Candidate
    Declined Offer
    Negative Experience
    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied online. I interviewed at River City Marketing in July 2015.

    Interview

It is a bait-and-switch scam designed to get as many people doing in-store demos for them as possible.

As I was waiting to be interviewed, there were 5-6 other people in the lobby without proper business attire, and the receptionist booked an additional interview over the phone every 2-3 minutes.

Be warned: this place is not for qualified college graduates, or those with substantial experience--you will not be treated as such.

    Interview Questions

    • They basically ask you what position you want--then say by first doing in-store demos, you can move up to [insert desired position].   1 Answer

    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at River City Marketing (Saint Louis, MO) in June 2015.

    Interview

Short first interview (10 minutes), very easy. Second interview involves going to a Sam's Club store to see where they sell DirecTV; you are told you will manage your own team of salespeople within less than a year if you make the sales projections. Sounds very positive. Unfortunately, the actual sales practice leads to very few sales, so the job falls apart quickly.

    Interview Questions

    • How do you handle negativity? This is because almost everyone you try to sell to will reject you, and many will reject you harshly.   1 Answer

    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 4 days. I interviewed at River City Marketing (Saint Louis, MO) in February 2016.

    Interview

The interview process was easy. Everyone was very polite and seemed very determined to "win". It was just deceitful because your job description is actually selling Direct TV inside of SAMs Club or Costco or some place like that. And then once you've gotten an account or two you move "up" in the company.

    Account Representative Interview

    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at River City Marketing (Saint Louis, MO) in June 2015.

    Interview

The interview process was very laid back yet informative. You first start out with meeting the CEO, Randy. He's a great guy and he really explains what they are about and asks you some general questions about yourself. Lasted probably only about 30 minutes. For the second part, someone who is an account executive will take you out in the field and show you what you will be doing on a day to day basis (usually it is a person who has a direct influence on whether you are hired or not). Thats the process.
