      Full Stack Software Engineer Interview

      Apr 24, 2019
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Rocket

      Interview

A coding challenge no HackerRank which involved two questions. I was told by the company that the phone screen would be language-independent and more concentrated on programming fundamentals. But surprise! surprise! The first question I was fired upon was "rate your proficiency in the languages you mentioned in your resume on a scale of 1 to 10" and everything that followed was keywords, ways to do things in Angular or TypeScript or JavaScript. I quote from their email "We want to hire engineers, not language specialists. Therefore, we’re more focused on where you stand on programming fundamentals, including common data types, design patterns, and data structures; object-oriented design principals; experience with unit testing; modern version control flows; functional programming; and comfort level on the command line." But yeah looks like they are in fact hiring language experts who knows practically everything on a particular language. Could move this position from entry-level to mid-senior level as well and change the position to front-end developer. Really disappointed for having wasted my time on this.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Rocket (Detroit, MI) in May 2018

      Interview

Interview process took quite long for me for about 6 to 8 weeks. But, the process was smooth and was happy with that recruiter was always in touch. First round was just phone screen, then followed by 3hr of Hacker Rank test( It was quite simple), then a managerial round/behavioral round, then a hour and half long Technical Interview on phone by panel of 4 members. Then, an onsite Interview by panel of 3 members.

      Interview questions [4]

      Question 1

Hacker Rank - Check for balanced parenthesis and one more is about lexicographic sorting
      1 Answer

      Question 2

Phone Behavioral Round - Normal questions like your weakness, strength, frustrating moment, a time when you failed in your decision etc..
      Answer question

      Question 3

Phone Technical Interview - All about design patterns in detail and some questions were on C#, TypeScript, JavaScript and Angular 4
      Answer question

      Question 4

Onsite - It was also a Technical interview - Asked some situational questions and deep dive into your resume and experience, how you handle certain situations, A critical thinking question - You are provided with 7 ball and in which one of them is less weight than other, you are also provided with the weighing scale but, you can use only twice. How do you do? And the other one was white board on simple algorithm(sort and loop)
