      Production Editor Interview

      Oct 19, 2016
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Rosen Publishing in Apr 2012

      Interview

basic meet and greet with typical "what are you looking for" "what experience do you have," type questions. Nothing really sticks out in my mind. I think the turn over rate at this company is always happening that they don't even bother to try and find people who may stay.

      Interview

Two rounds of interviewing, with both the department manager and the person who would be a direct supervisor. The questions were fairly straightforward, a mix of previous experience and overall outlook on publishing.

      Interview

Contacted through email by the Art Director to interview for a Production Editor position. He clearly specified this was in no way an art position, which I would never think because that's not what Prod Eds do. Went in for an interview in a dingy little building. When I checked in with the receptionist there was no where to sit and she said "Oops, they just took the chairs away". Met w/ the Art Director and asked why I was meeting w/ him if this wasn't a design position and that's b/c everyone reports TO him. EVERYONE IN THE COMPANY. Bad sign. If your manager is an art director and you're not in design, there's something wrong. He literally asked me zero questions except explained the position. He then made me take a "test". It was looking at a print book and comparing it to the file in InDesign. I had to make the corrections on the print book in InDesign. This was a TYPIST position. Literally involved no brain power, just eye balls. He asked me to be in touch with him in a few days regarding his decision. How about HE contacts ME? Needless to say, when I didn't reach back out, he contacted me and I very quickly told him I was no longer interested.
